Diversity & Inclusion
Diversity and Inclusion resources support the ability to understand one’s own identity and background and how they differ from others.ÌýAdditionally, these resources support an appreciation for engaging with experiences that expand one’s understanding of diverse cultures and backgrounds.
- ÍøÆØÍø Bias ResponseÌý–ÌýÍøÆØÍø was founded on the principle that everyone deserves an education, regardless of race or gender.ÌýIn keeping with that tradition, ÍøÆØÍø is committed to creating and maintaining a respectful educational environment in which all of our community members are welcomed, respected, and supported.
- —This includes Clowes Hall, ÍøÆØÍø’s performing arts center on campus and the Schrott Center. The Schrott Center provides students and faculty staff with “a full-sized laboratory” in which to participate and experience the arts.
- ÍøÆØÍø Cultural Requirement (BCR)—The ÍøÆØÍø CulturalÌýRequirement engages students in valuable and exciting learning opportunities, encourages students to participate in artistic and cultural events and promote lifelong engagement with creative arts and public intellectual life.
- Center for Faith and Vocation (CFV)—The Center for Faith and Vocation seeks to provide opportunities for students, faculty, and staff to reflect on their own passions and how to connect the life they lead to a sense of purpose and meaning.
- Interfaith Engagement—The Center for Faith and Vocation provides several initiatives for interfaith engagement, including the CFV Interfaith Council, interfaith excursions, interfaith service programs, the New View Film Series, and paid internship opportunities.
- Center for Global Education—The Center for Global Education supports global learning including students studying abroad as well as majors with an international focus.
- International Student Services—International student services provides academic and social support to exchange and international students attending ÍøÆØÍø.
- Counseling and Consultation ServicesÌý(CCS)—ÍøÆØÍø’s licensed and professionally trained staff offers counseling services to all currently enrolled students. We strive to provide students with the support and resources they need to help them achieve their personal and academic goals and enhance their experience while in college
- Safe Space LGBTQ Ally Training—Safe space provides training to faculty, staff, and students to become active and effective allies to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) community with the goal of providing a more hospitable environment on campus.
- Desmond Tutu Center—The Desmond Tutu Center for Peace, Reconciliation and Global Justice is a partnership between ÍøÆØÍø and the Christian Theological Seminary (CTS).
- Efroymson Diversity CenterÌý(DC)—Located on the lower level of Atherton Union (AUÌý004), the DC houses the Department of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, seven student organizations, a prayer/meditation space, kitchenette, study tables, and a comfy lounge area.
- Founder’s Week Celebration—In February of each year, Founder’s Week celebrates ÍøÆØÍø’s founding principles of diversity, equality, innovation, and access.
- Global and Historical Studies (GHS)—Formal coursework designed to recognize the benefits and challenges of living in a culturally diverse and increasingly globalized world.
- —Extensive information on mental health and substance use resources for People of Color. Their mission is equal access to life-saving resources.
- Seminar on Religion and Global Affairs—The Seminar on Religion and Global Affairs is a free seminar series open to the public as well as ÍøÆØÍø community that explores the intersection of religion and various current global issues.Ìý The seminar is produced by the Center for Faith and Vocation.
- Sexual Assault Response and PreventionÌý(SARP)—The SARP OfficeÌýis available to respond to students who have experienced forced or unwanted sexual contact or interpersonal violence.
- Sexual Misconduct Resources—ÍøÆØÍø actively fosters an inclusive environment of respect where differences are honored. All individuals who work, study, and participate in ÍøÆØÍø activities have the right to be free of harassment and discrimination. Fostering a Community of C.A.R.E. and creating a campus environment free of harassment is everyone’s responsibility.
- Student Disability Services (SDS)—Student Disability ServicesÌýprovides accommodations and support services for students with documented disabilities. Services are individualized and determined on a case by case basis.
- —SGA is an elected body of student leaders that program events, advocate for student concerns and provide opportunities for learning, engagement, and community.
- —A subdivision of SGA, the DEI boardÌýstrives to host diversity events and promote awareness on campus to foster an environment where differences are respected and appreciated.
- —Recognizing the signs of drug abuse can save a life. This guide offers an abundance of guidance in recognizing and responding to signs of drug abuse.
- Vivian S. Delbrook Visiting Writers Series—The visiting writer’s series hosts public readings and Q & A sessions with some of the most influential people in contemporary literature.
- Affinity Group Program—The Office of the Provost supports affinity groups that bring together staff and faculty with similar backgrounds, identities and/or interests to help foster a sense of belonging, increase community participation of faculty and staff with similar backgrounds and interests, and enhance interactional diversity by encouraging inter-community events focused on common interests, educational outreach or productive dialogue.
